Ai Weiwei (艾未未)

To Fight with Crossed Arms

100 cm (h) x 200 cm (l)

Chromogenic Print

In Collaboration with MAP Office
4 Photos, Each 100 x 50 cm, Framed
Edition 4 of 9, 1 AP
“To hold a brick”, “To show a brick”, “To throw a brick”, and “To put a brick on the head”. These gestures imply Ai Weiwei as the architect, the curator, the critic and the artist. The title “To Fight with Crossed-Arms” derives from Marcel Duchamp’s quote, suggests the resolution of conflict through mutual agreement, or engagement in some unspecified game without seeking to win but never losing, much like the internationally impotent political manoeuvres that characterize the artistic modalities shared between MAP Office and Ai Weiwei. The work consists of 4 photographs.
