Lam Tung-pang (林东鹏)

220 cm (h) x 150 cm (l) x 5 cm (d)

Acrylic on canvas

The rapid urbanization of Hong Kong and the scarcity of land have made the topic of nature more and more relevant for the artist. Lam has been painting portraits of animals for years. The first animal he painted was a polar bear. Such animals in the Hong Kong scenery look absolutely incongruous and almost surrealist. Lam takes their images from internet or mass media as he does not have the chance to being directly into contact with them.
This seagull appears as if it was trying to fly but was facing an headwind, making her move difficult: it probably represents the destiny of animals in modern life. Over the years, Lam has revealed his feeling for nature, reflecting in his works the relationship between humans, time and nature.
