Born in Hunan, China in 1984, Tang Dayao graduated from Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts in Chongqing. Tang describes his paintings as “fragments” of his thoughts and creative expressions. “I am waiting for these fragments to naturally grow into a complete map”, the artist explains. From his paintings one can see the confusion and inner conflict of a young artist, torn between his education on traditional painting techniques and the reality of having to sell his works. His paintings feature exquisite touches, dark colours, and realistic themes, reflecting a personality that is calm on the surface but turbulent deep down. Tang’s work was featured in Platform China Contemporary Art Institute in Beijing (2013), Antenna Space in Shanghai (2013) and White Space Gallery in Beijing (2014). He has held solo exhibitions in Hua Art Museum in Shenzhen (2011) and Sundor Gallery in Guangzhou (2012).
