Born in 1981 in Chongqing, China. Li Shurui graduated from Sichuan Fine Arts Institute, China in 2004. Best known for her 'Light' series that she started in 2005, Li is fascinated by light and the colour spectrum it produces. Li bases earlier works of the series on picutres of explosions and photographs of LED lights, later she became more concern with how lights are positioned and its spatial relations. Often in large formats, her paintings are powerful not just because of their impressive scale, but the immersive atmosphere they have created and their ability to arouse one’s imagination. She now lives and works in Beijing.
