Qiu Xiaofei (b.1977) graduated from China Central Academy of Fine Arts (CAFA). While at CAFA, he began a study of expressionism techniques. His artistic practice has come to include oil painting, watercolor, drawing, sculpture and installation. The concept of his work engages relationships between personal experience and history: many of his paintings are based on photos from his childhood. His current multi-disciplinary work combines drawings with sculptures and act as a chronological recorder of the artist’s history. Focusing on the psychological state during the creative process, Qiu explores various parts of his memory, creating works that evoke a dreamlike state.
